The Sarah Bush Lincoln (SBL) Bonutti Clinic is a freestanding, two story medical office building. This outpatient facility is strategically located on the south side of Interstate 70 in Effingham, Illinois. The building’s positioning was vital due to the site’s sunken nature, which initially made it difficult for the structure to be visible from the interstate. In response, BSA’s expert architects developed a comprehensive site grading plan. They successfully requested a variance to local ordinances, raising the building’s elevation for improved visibility.

On the first floor, the interior design service areas include a main lobby, walk-in clinic, lab, imaging department, and physical therapy department. Other support spaces on the first floor include receiving areas, common storage, break rooms, conference rooms, and infrastructure rooms. The second floor of the SBL Bonutti Clinic houses:

  • Elevator and stair lobby
  • Open waiting area for physician clinics
  • Orthopedic clinic
  • Occupational medicine clinic
  • Two x-ray rooms

The project was designed to provide separate interior traffic flows by separating the back-of-house areas from the front-of-house guest and patient areas. In summary, the goal was to create a welcoming, comforting patient experience for all who entered the building.

The BSA design team prioritized creating a welcoming and comforting patient experience. Not only is the SBL Bonutti Clinic a functional facility, it is also aesthetically pleasing. The design optimizes healthcare interior design services to enhance both patient care and operational efficiency.
