A modern academic building captured at dusk with lights from within the 4-story building illuminating its architectural features. The structure combines brick, glass, and metal elements, with tall, rectangular columns supporting an extended roof. Sleek metal accents and horizontal louvers add to the contemporary design.
A spacious, modern lounge area within the Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that allow ample natural light. The space is furnished with gray upholstered armchairs arranged around small circular tables. A man in a black T-shirt and jeans sits in one of the chairs, reading a book with a laptop on the table beside him. The interior features a mix of brick, glass, and sleek white walls. A glass-walled conference room with horizontal frosted stripes is visible in the background, along with a mezzanine level with a glass railing above. Pendant lights hang from the ceiling, enhancing the contemporary aesthetic.
A modern laboratory with a researcher in a white lab coat, safety goggles, and purple gloves standing at a workstation, writing on a clipboard. The lab is well-lit, with stainless steel countertops, multiple sinks, and open shelving holding various lab equipment, glassware, and chemical containers. A fume hood with a glass front and labeled controls is visible on the left, along with a drying rack for glassware. The floor is polished concrete, and large windows in the background allow natural light to enter, showing a view of a building outside.
A modern academic building captured at sunset, with warm sunlight casting a golden glow on its architectural features. The structure combines brick, glass, and metal elements, with tall, rectangular columns supporting an extended roof. Large windows reflect the sky, while sleek metal accents and horizontal louvers add to the contemporary design. The background features a partly cloudy sky, adding depth and contrast to the image.

Purdue University’s scientists are making drug discovery breakthroughs at the atomic and molecular levels. The Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery is a state-of-the-art facility that provides environmentally controlled lab interior design, ensuring precise regulation of temperature, humidity, and mold prevention. Designed by our top architects specializing in science and technology architecture, this facility fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge research in chemistry and biochemistry.

Offices and support spaces surround a research laboratory core. This separates the lab zone from the office zone while still maximizing convenience, comfort, and safety for the users. In addition, windows into the labs maintain a visual connection among areas and enhance daylighting. Finally, the laboratories offer flexible and adaptable interior design, allowing spaces to be connected or divided into smaller clusters based on research needs.

Additionally, key features of the Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery include:

  • A lab core surrounded by offices and support spaces maximizing convenience, comfort and safety
  • Lab designed for flexibility and adaptability
  • Animal housing, microscopy, tissue culture
  • Imaging center (NMR)
  • Biochemistry and chemistry laboratories
  • Infill site, part of a new three building complex
  • Windows into labs maintain a visual connection and enhance day lighting

This project exemplifies BSA’s leadership in science and technology interior design, healthcare architecture, and research facility design, supporting Purdue University’s mission to advance medical and pharmaceutical innovation.
