Wake Tech ADA Accessibility Upgrades – Southern Wake & Perry Health Sciences Campuses

Wake Technical Community College partnered with BSA and our leading architects and engineers to provide project design and management for comprehensive ADA accessibility upgrades across its Southern Wake and Perry Health Sciences Campuses. These campus-wide improvements include essential updates to sidewalks, ramps, parking spaces, stairs, and handrails—ensuring compliance with ADA standards and enhancing accessibility for all students, staff, and visitors.

The Southern Wake Campus, being situated on challenging terrain with significant topography, required thoughtful planning and custom building design strategies. BSA conducted a detailed site assessment to identify multiple ADA accessibility issues and develop a plan to resolve them holistically.

Campus Transformation Through Strategic Design

Project goals included creating a safer, more inclusive environment while transforming the campus experience. Key features of the campus solutions included:

  • A new traffic circle for improved vehicle circulation
  • A pedestrian-friendly and ADA accessible plaza that enhances connectivity
  • Student seat walls and gathering spaces that foster campus engagement
  • A clearly defined, welcoming “front door” to campus

The facility upgrades also included pathways for ADA compliance, updated campus signage, parking lot enhancements, and thoughtful landscaping improvements. Altogether, these updates unify the look and feel of the space. To support wayfinding and campus identity, BSA introduced modern bus shelters, including a signature shelter that reflects Wake Tech’s logo. This serves as both a practical amenity and a symbolic gateway to the campus.
