This image shows an interior corridor of what appears to be part of OrthoIndy Hospital. The space features a modern, clean design with a nurses' station or reception desk on the left where a staff member in blue scrubs is working at a computer. A healthcare professional in a white coat is standing at the counter conversing with the staff member. The corridor stretches down with a minimalist design featuring white walls accented with blue color panels. The flooring has a subtle pattern with directional lines that help guide movement through the space. Modern pendant lighting hangs from the drop ceiling, and there are handrails along the wall for patient support. In the distance, another staff member in blue scrubs can be seen walking down the hallway. The entire space conveys a contemporary healthcare environment with attention to both functionality and aesthetic design, consistent with the modern approach seen in the exterior architecture of the facility.
This image shows a modern nurses' station or administrative hub in what appears to be part of OrthoIndy Hospital. The space features a contemporary design with multiple white reception counters arranged in an open layout. Staff members in blue scrubs can be seen working at different stations. The area includes several workstations with multiple computer monitors, printers, and other office equipment in the central space. The design maintains the hospital's color scheme with white surfaces, blue accent walls, and neutral tones throughout. Linear lighting fixtures are integrated into the ceiling, providing even illumination across the space. The flooring continues the same pattern seen in the corridor image, with directional lines that help with wayfinding. Large structural columns support the ceiling in this open area, and there are windows visible on the far right that allow natural light to enter the space and provide views to the outside. This well-organized central hub appears designed to facilitate staff communication and efficient workflow in the healthcare environment.
This image shows a modern hospital patient room with a well-designed healing environment. The room features an adjustable medical bed with clean white linens and a digital control panel. Above the bed is a ceiling-mounted patient lift with a hanging transfer sling. By the window, which offers natural light and a view of greenery outside, sits a gray recliner chair for visitors. The room includes warm wood cabinetry along one wall with a wall-mounted television and a small potted plant adding a touch of nature. The space is designed with a balance of clinical functionality and comfort, with neutral colors, smooth flooring for easy cleaning, and medical equipment positioned for accessibility. The combination of medical necessities with homelike elements creates a more comfortable healing environment for patients.

This state-of-the-art orthopedic facility, designed by BSA for OrthoIndy, exemplifies thoughtful orthopedic hospital design. Specifically, this design allows OrthoIndy to better serve a growing patient population with advanced and specialized care. BSA planned and designed the original 100,000 SF OrthoIndy facility in 2008. When doing so, we included opportunities for future expansion. With this new addition of a dedicated inpatient unit, those expansion opportunities have come to life.

This expansion strengthens the continuum of care, allowing more extensive orthopedic procedures to be completed onsite. Now, OrthoIndy can offer a more inclusive care plan and eliminate the need to refer patients elsewhere. The new wing includes a 15-bed inpatient unit, a post-anesthesia care unit, and an expanded mechanical system. Central sterile capacity has doubled, ensuring operational efficiency and patient safety. The addition also integrates physical therapy and imaging services into one cohesive, patient-focused environment.

From master planning to implementation, BSA’s orthopedic hospital design complements the existing site while enhancing the patient and staff experience through seamless wayfinding, easy access, and an abundance of natural light. The architectural language, and flow of the addition align with the original facility, maintaining visual and functional consistency.

This facility is Indiana’s only specialty hospital with a sole focus on orthopedic care. It now delivers a more inclusive care plan that supports healing, improves outcomes, and elevates the region’s standard of orthopedic treatment.
