The NeuroDiagnostic Institute and Advanced Treatment Center is Indiana’s first new state mental hospital since 1952. The new state-of-the-art neuro-diagnostic treatment institute is the flagship of Indiana’s network of state-operated mental health facilities and a cornerstone for efforts to address the scourge of drug addiction in Indiana.

First of its kind, this facility will deliver expert neuro-diagnostic evaluation and treatment for patients upon their arrival and move them more efficiently into the most appropriate treatment settings within the community or state mental health system. NDI is also the first behavioral hospital to use vandal-resistant luminaires with color tuning, creating a modernized approach to mental health care. Group spaces within the facility use dynamic artificial lighting to mimic natural daylight patterns by varying intensity and color throughout the day to reinforce a nurturing healing environment to help those with neurological illnesses, while still protecting patient and staff safety.

The program will also develop treatment plans for a wide range of brain-related illnesses such as acute and chronic mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, chronic addictions, and neurodegenerative illness.

Our design utilized the existing Community East infrastructure to form a new facility as well as a connector between the two buildings. A variety of new systems, state-of-the-art equipment, and direct access to Community East will offer the ability to treat over 1,500 patients yearly.
