The Luddy Center for Artificial Intelligence serves as the new home for Indiana University’s School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. This state-of-the-art facility is the epicenter of the university’s artificial intelligence (AI) research initiatives. Additionally, Luddy Center has a strong emphasis on machine learning and advanced computational methods. Designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the building brings together students, faculty, and staff in a dynamic environment that promotes innovation in both teaching and research.
A major focus of the Luddy Center is digital health. The facility supports close partnerships with Indiana University’s robust network of health and life sciences programs located on the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses. Within the center, researchers explore a broad spectrum of approaches to artificial systems. Specifically, they research the development of machines that can replicate intelligent human behavior and engage meaningfully with their environment.
BSA provided comprehensive architectural and engineering design services for the Luddy Center. Our designers worked closely with university stakeholders to create a space that embodies the school’s mission and vision. The design integrates highly adaptable spaces and cutting-edge technologies to support groundbreaking computational research.
Key features of the Luddy Center include high-performance computational research laboratories, flexible classrooms, modern office areas, collaboration and social hubs, open and private workspaces, advanced conference rooms, and a 376-car parking garage equipped with electric vehicle charging stations. The limestone exterior was carefully selected to harmonize with Indiana University’s iconic campus architecture.
