The grand concourse features high ceilings supported by exposed white trusses and columns, with natural light streaming through a massive glass façade at the far end. Suspended overhead is an artistic installation of sleek blue forms, adding a dynamic visual element to the open space. The floor is lined with polished tiles and populated with greenery, modern seating areas, and food vendors, creating a welcoming and organized environment for travelers.
The image shows the exterior of the Indianapolis International Airport terminal. It features a modern architectural design with a prominent curved roof structure supported by white steel trusses and beams. Below the main roof overhang is a covered passenger drop-off or pick-up area with a white canopy ceiling. There are some directional signs hanging from this canopy, with one visible sign labeled

Since 1999, BSA and its aviation affiliate, Aviation Capital Management LLC, have served as the Owner’s Technical Representatives for one of the most ambitious airport infrastructure projects in the U.S.—the Midfield Terminal Development of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. Spanning a two-square-mile site, the project encompasses a new 1,260,000-square-foot terminal building with two connected concourses supporting 40 aircraft gates, a replacement air traffic control tower, and 17,700 parking spaces accessed via a new airport parkway and intersection.

A key component of the project involved the relocation of a major highway segment to accommodate the airport’s expansion. The terminal integrates advanced technologies, including a fully automated baggage handling system with 100% baggage screening capacity. Additionally, it features a comprehensive Airport Management System featuring biometric security. A central concessions court doubles as a showcase space and social hub for travelers, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

In addition to passenger amenities, the terminal includes an extensive utility infrastructure and a service tunnel beneath the north parallel runway. This tunnel connects the facility to an existing central power plant. Emphasizing environmental responsibility, stormwater quality and sustainable site development were critical project priorities.

The Midfield Terminal was the first LEED-certified airport terminal in the United States. It set a national precedent for sustainable aviation design. A thoughtfully curated arts program throughout the terminal further underscores the project’s commitment to community engagement and elevated traveler experience.
