The Continuity Clinic houses a residency program for medical students in the final stages of their education hoping to become family physicians. Since there is a shortage of such programs in southwest Indiana, Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center wants to make sure the new program will attract family physicians to the area.
Many residency students tend to set up their practices where they complete their residency, and this clinic will attract talent to the area. Memorial is working on the residency program with Deaconess Hospital in Evansville and plans to have students enrolled in 2018. Students would spend one year in Evansville and two years in Jasper, so the clinic in Jasper would first be used in 2019.
Construction of the project will happen in two phases — one to build the clinic and office spaces for the residents and another to add additional office spaces for the hospital to use.
