Melanie Harris, AIA, LEEP AP BD+C, WELL AP, principal at BSA LifeStructures, has been named the Healing Practice Director. As a leading healthcare design firm, BSA has served the industry for over 45 years as experts in healing environments. Melanie will build on the firm’s history in healthcare nationally as well as supporting the regional studios to grow the practice. Melanie joined BSA four months ago to expand the firm’s presence in the Florida market. She continues to develop that market with the support of the entire BSA team. Melanie enjoys bringing unique solutions to design challenges and is passionate about building strong relationships with clients and industry partners. In the fall of 2019, BSA’s design team worked with the University of Colorado to imagine an upcoming high-performance student housing project. Following the principles of high-performance design, Josh Vel, design director, led his team to showcase the use of data-driven decision making on the project. Starting in a dynamic charrette process, the team studied site, climate, massing and cost. Early in the design phase, the pace at which the concept evolves is too fast for traditional simulation workflows. The BSA team utilized automated cove.tool workflow to get rapid feedback. Read more.
