Leveraging Simulation Modeling for Clinic Resource Management and Design Improvements
There is an increasing need for strategies that reduce costs and improve efficiency in healthcare facilities. This presentation shows the application of discrete event simulation (DES) in providing future design recommendations that improve resource allocation and space utilization. We also highlight the importance of medical and management staff involvement. The increase in healthcare costs, patient wait times, and complexity of patient arrival and admission planning for resource allocation have propelled the need for strategies that reduce costs and improve efficiency in outpatient facilities. DES is a viable decision support tool for analyzing healthcare system improvements. This presentation explores the effects of a decentralized to centralized registration system on resource utilization or patient wait times. Further, the study evaluated the adequacy of the number of exam rooms per department for optimum future performance.
