This September, tackle the latest challenges and learn the top trends at the industry’s best networking and educational event. We can’t wait to see you in Charlotte, NC, as you join your colleagues, clients, and competitors to create IMPACT.
On September 20, Melanie and Wendy, in addition to Eskenazi Health’s chief nursing officer and executive vice president of patient care services, will explore the role of design in breaking down social barriers in healthcare settings. A multitude of social and cultural factors can discourage people from seeking care, including stigma, discrimination, and lack of access to resources. Design can play a crucial role in breaking social barriers of care by creating welcoming and inclusive spaces that are accessible to all. One way to do this is by designing for accessibility, ensuring that people with disabilities can easily access all areas of the facility. Additionally, healthcare design can also incorporate elements that promote a sense of community and belonging, such as comfortable waiting areas, outdoor spaces, and artwork. These elements can help to reduce feelings of isolation. Ultimately, design has the potential to break social barriers of care by reaching into the community to understand needs spanning from transportation to nutrition and barriers at home.
The Symposium features faculty who will cover a range of topics, including supply chain and staffing concerns, behavioral health, post-occupancy evaluation, the impact of technology and sustainability, and many more.
