BSA LifeStructures Announces New Leadership for the Next Phase of the Company’s Growth
BSA LifeStructures announces new leadership as the firm moves into the next phase of the company’s growth. Effective May 1, Tim Spence will serve as chief executive officer, Sam Jackson as president, and Kenyon Worrell as chief operating officer.
Tim most recently served as firm president, Sam as chief operating officer, and Kenyon as director of architecture.
“The global pandemic threw our best-laid plans into flux, and Tim led us through by addressing new challenges for our clients and our business,” said Kevin Token, board chair. ” We are excited about the way we are positioned for the coming years and by the opportunities we will have with Tim as the firm’s visionary leader.”
As CEO, Tim will set the firm’s direction while challenging and encouraging all employee-owners to embrace that vision and strengthen BSA’s culture of empowerment and collaboration.
“When I joined BSA eight years ago, I knew I joined a company with great integrity and a successful, rich history,” said Tim. “BSA possesses untapped potential, and I look forward to pushing this firm to greatness.”
Tim has 30 years of experience where his facility designs, writings, and lectures have led him to become an established thought leader in the healthcare design industry. A registered architect in 25 states, he is a member of the American Institute of Architects, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Architects, and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified. He earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Southern California.
In his new role as president—a role BSA traditionally re-appoints every seven years—Sam will work directly with other members of BSA’s leadership team to lead the firm through this new phase of growth. Also a member of BSA’s board of directors, Sam joined BSA in 1998 as a graduate electrical engineer and has held various roles in the firm, including principal, regional director, director of engineering, and chief operating officer. He has contributed inventive ideas and unique perspectives, and his vision for strengthening the firm has advanced BSA in expertise and knowledge.
“I am energized by talent and teamwork, and there is no shortage of that at BSA. I am enthusiastic about the future of BSA and what this team can accomplish,” said Sam.
Sam holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a master of business administration from Indiana University. He is a licensed professional engineer in 27 states, NCEES Record holder, LEED Accredited Professional, and Purdue University Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified.
To his new role as chief operating officer, Kenyon brings experience as a BSA principal, regional director, and director of architecture. He and Tim partnered in 2015 to guide the successful launch of BSA’s Raleigh studio, which quickly grew from a two-person office to the highly successful, multi-disciplined, and sustainable studio that exists today.
“I am excited to contribute my expertise to the continued growth and success of BSA,” said Kenyon, who brings 23 years of professional experience to his new role. “As the new strategic leader of people and processes, one of my main priorities is to deepen the firm’s culture of empowerment. I am eager to see what we can accomplish together over the next few years.”
Passionate about giving back to the community, Kenyon has been an advocate and dedicated supporter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for more than eight years, serving on the NC/VA Regional Board of Directors for the last five years. In total, Kenyon’s impact on the LLS mission has helped raise more than $800k toward funding research advancements for a cure for blood cancers. He is a registered architect, a member of the American Institute of Architects, a board-certified member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, and a Purdue University Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified professional. He holds bachelor’s degrees in architecture and environmental design in architecture from North Carolina State University.
