In today’s complex, demanding healthcare work environment, addressing staff burnout is one of the most critical and confounding challenges facing the healthcare industry. This burnout epidemic is driving new research – particularly in the design of the built environment – as organizations struggle to stem the tsunami of chronic absenteeism, staff departures, low productivity and morale, early retirements, and stress-induced mental and physical health conditions.

Drawing from research by The Center for Health Design, Brene Brown and Mayo Clinic, and the Gallup Healthways well-being metrics, this session explores overcoming burnout and chronic stress.

Attendees will learn the significance of work-life balance and well-being in healthcare environments and how that translates into design/construction environments. At the end of the session, they will be better equipped to mitigate burnout and chronic stress through actionable strategies, cultivate “employability soft skills” for resilient workplace culture, and implement research through interactive activities that develop well-being work cycles for professional and personal success.
