Health Versus Safety? Evidence-Based Design for Behavioral and Mental Health

Two goals (sometimes complimentary and other times competing) are at the center of current behavioral and mental healthcare models: safety and healing. While safety is always a driver, we shouldn’t lose a strong emphasis on healing for this specialized care. This session explores the objectives of safety, efficiency, satisfaction, and high-quality care in relation to designing behavioral and mental healthcare environments. The researcher and designer presentation team will share specific insights, reflections, suggestions, and strategies for designing settings that are both anticipatory and responsive to the needs of behavioral and mental health patients, their companions, and personnel.
