Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute
First proton radiotherapy facility in the Midwest
The Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute opened as the first proton radiation facility in the Midwest and the third in the country. This project renovated an Indiana University cyclotron facility into a healing environment offering this specialized treatment.
The facility specializes in the treatment of non-operable tumors in the head and neck and is designed specifically to treat children. Pediatric considerations include a separate waiting room and play area, a pediatric recovery room and restrooms with child-sized fixtures. Parents are actively involved in treatment with viewing alcoves that allow monitoring of their child’s treatment.
