Medical Science Center Phase 1 - School of Medicine
Focus on learning, researching and collaborating
As the focal point of the Indiana University medical campus, an updated Medical Science Center sparks a renewed academic and research spirit for one of the nation’s largest schools of medicine. This project was the first phase of a multi-year renewal program and included laboratories for chemistry, anatomy, gross anatomy, physiology and toxicology with a 6,000-square-foot vivarium.
A remarkable interior volume binds together the new with the existing parts of the building. Students, faculty and visitors congregate in an atrium flooded with natural light that enhances the DNA Tower by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. The project eliminated vehicular traffic on adjacent roadways and created a natural pedestrian mall.
