Ivy Tech Community College Marion Campus
A campus for the entire community
The Ivy Tech Community College Marion campus is the result of a non-traditional partnership between the college, city and county that is based on reversing an economic downturn caused by a lack of workforce training and a faltering economy. The resulting community-centered campus with interactive learning spaces and community gathering spaces creates an environment where local residents can receive needed professional training and ultimately give back to the community with their degrees.
In addition to each party achieving their economic and educational goals, the facility itself is a significant structure to the Marion community. The design team used site and building concept studies to fully integrate the surrounding natural environment into all aspects of the design. Key public spaces such as the student commons and banquet rooms are oriented to provide sunlit views of the pond and wetlands.
Inside, the building provides a variety of interaction spaces and is designed to meet the broad range of student needs that are often accommodated in multiple buildings on university campus. Biology, science, chemistry, medical and radiology training labs and an industrial lab are included in the 37 general purpose and specialized classrooms. Non-traditional academic spaces like the 250-person lecture hall and divisible banquet rooms function as impressive settings for civic-minded presentations and events.
