Innovation Center
Providing flexible space to start-up technology companies
As the first phase of a new research and discovery precinct, this LEED Silver laboratory incubator is dedicated to developing new technology based companies and further augments Indiana University’s research and life science missions. The Innovation Center makes transformative contributions to both the economic welfare of the state of Indiana and the well-being at large with a life science focus.
With connection to the new campus precinct, much of the facility’s design is the result of considerations of future growth and relationship to other planned buildings. The building is oriented toward the new precinct to encourage a pedestrian focused campus.
Inside, a modular-based design maximizes efficient use of leasable space that allows emerging companies to grow in increments as needed. Tenant and community spaces include meeting rooms, office space, dry labs and wet labs. The new IU Pervasive Technology Institute occupies much of the first floor and includes specialized research environments for the Digital Science Center, the Data to Insight Center and the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research.
The simple building form conveys a straight-forward organizational layout with a central circulation spine that anchors the north and south wings. The main entrance creates a dramatic and transparent entry element to both invite and engage users.
