Health and Human Sciences Building
Expanding opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning and engagement
The Health and Human Sciences facility combines all programs of the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences with other clinical facilities associated with the new College of Health and Human Sciences and the Indiana University School of Medicine - Lafayette. In the spirit of campus precincts, the building is located on the Life and Health Sciences Quadrangle and includes an 850-vehicle parking garage.
The facility combines academic and clinic space that supports the curriculum and research goals of the schools occupying the building. While uniting multiple users, BSA LifeStructures was challenged to preserve each departments unique image and culture while still seeking opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning and engagement.
The collaborative and interdisciplinary design of the Health and Human Sciences Building creates a learning environment that replicates the healthcare industry and produces operational efficiencies for the university. Increasing the number of shared research and learning spaces reduces the overall square footage, leading to reduced operating costs. The departments, which were previously scattered throughout Purdue’s campus, are now united to remove obstacles that impede connectivity.
The building is designed to achieve Green Globes certification.
