Gallahue Hall Science Building Renovation
Improving air quality, energy efficiency and safety with new technology
At forty years old, Gallahue Hall, could no longer maintain a consistent air quality level. Renovation of chemistry and organic chemistry teaching labs and a chemical storeroom/prep room was needed.
The University wanted a design that would have significant impact on energy savings and long-term operating costs while still providing high quality learning environments. The renovated labs use two technologies new to the Butler University campus – ductless fume hoods and LED lighting. 27 ductless fume hoods will be installed in the chemistry labs and prep room. The ductless technology eliminates almost all existing air supply and exhaust in the renovated rooms and allows the equipment to be easily relocated. New LED lighting requires virtually the same amount of energy as fluorescents but with a lifespan 2.5 times longer.
