BSA LifeStructures' new Chicago office has been selected as a Building of America Award winner and is scheduled to be featured in the upcoming Green Building of America-Midwest Green edition.

Sam Reed Participates in COAA Round Table Discussion

On Friday, May 15th Sam Reed participated in a round table panel discussion for the Construction Owners Association of America at their spring conference. The topic matter focused on the economic state of the architecture/ engineering industry and how this affects our clients and building owners.

BSA LifeStructures Awarded Safety Achievement Award

BSA LifeStructures was recently awarded the Safety Achievement Award from MICCS (Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety) in the design category. This award has been earned by the company in 9 of the last 10 years. Award selection is based on what is implemented in the design phase to impact safety during and after construction, employee safety training, and the overall corporate safety program.

Chris Lake and Jim Hill Present at National NBIA Conference

Chris Lake, AIA, LEED AP, and Jim Hill, AIA, of BSA LifeStructures, recently co-presented with Mark Long at the National Business Incubator Association conference in Kansas City. The presentation, "Operating a Wet Lab on a Dry Lab Budget," was attended by business incubator managers and CEOs from across the country and around the world; approximately 35% of the attendees this year were from outside of the United States.

Dan Johnson Presents to MICCS (Metro Indianapolis Center for Construction Safety)

Dan Johnson presented a review of temporary masonry wall bracing to the MICCS Organization. The presentation focused on the concepts behind Temporary Wall Bracing and the "Masonry Wall Bracing Design Handbook" requirements as published by the Mason Contractors Association of America.

Chicago Open House

The Chicago BSA LifeStructures Open House took place on Thursday April 23rd from 6-8PM to celebrate our new space at 35 Wacker Drive. Long time clients, consultants, contractor friends, and prospective clients were all in attendance. Executive Director of the Chicago Office, Joe Mynhier, said, "With the success we’ve already experienced in the last five years in Chicago, we are anxiously looking forward to our continued presence and expansion over the next several decades. BSA LifeStructures’ new office space represents the hard work and dedication which has brought us this far. As we move forward, we plan to grow our numbers, including number of clients, projects, and talented employees who will support our company’s mission."

BSA LifeStructures and the 2009 Komen Indianapolis Race for the Cure

The BSA LifeStructures family of companies raced out on April 18th, 2009, to proudly show our support for this national effort aimed at winning the war against breast cancer. Runners and walkers from all departments of the company joined Clarian Health and the rest of Indiana as approximately 42,000 people united in downtown Indianapolis, making this year the second largest attendance in the race’s history.

Gary Vance, AIA, ACHA, to Serve on Healthcare Panel at University of Illinois at Chicago

On April 22, Gary Vance will be part of an Architects Forum at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He will be addressing the topic of Healthcare in an Age of Radical Transformation, which is a part of UIC’s Master of Science in Architecture in Health Design program. As part of the Architects Forum, Gary will be joining other panelists, who are leading members of the healthcare community, including principals from HOK, Harley Ellis Devereaux, and OWP/P.

Kay Townsend Appointed to ACE Board of Directors

Kay Townsend was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the ACE Mentor Program of Indianapolis. The ACE Mentor Program is a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to enlighten and increase the awareness of high school students’ career opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering, through mentoring. Don Altemeyer was a founding ACE board member, and both Rich Potosnak and Dale Jacobs have held board positions as well. Congratulations, Kay!

Don Altemeyer and Suri Ramanna Focus on International Healthcare Work

Don Altemeyer, Executive Director of BSA LifeStructures, and Suri Ramanna, of TRC Worldwide Engineering, will be co-presenting the case study for the proposed Vanderbilt Women and Children’s Hospitals in India at the Hospital Design-Build Conference in Singapore on April 1.

IU Names Research Facility After Foundation Member

The largest of the Indiana University School of Medicine’s new research facilities, designed by BSA LifeStructures, is being named after a prominent Indiana physician. Researchers will begin moving into the Joseph E. Walther Hall next month. The late doctor founded the Walther Cancer Foundation, which has contributed $50 million to support cancer programs at the IU schools of and nursing over the past two decades.

On April 25th, BSA LifeStructures and our family of companies will once again be participating in the Rebuilding Together Indianapolis program for the fourth year running. This program revitalizes homes in neighborhoods where many are in desperate need of repair and rehabilitation. The one-day event has given new hope to the many residents of various neighborhoods throughout Indianapolis over the past nearly 10 years.

Julie Kern of BSA LifeStructures has been selected as part of a group presentation, which will be shared at the 2009 Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Exposition in Chicago this October. The session is entitled, NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT OBSERVATIONS: NOISE, LIGHT AND SATISFACTION. Julie will be co-presenting with Victoria Navarro, with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Nate Sevener, of Acoustics By Design.

Kathy Clark, Jim Guidroz, and John Sauer have been selected to collaboratively present at the 2009 Midwest Healthcare Engineering Conference and Trade Show in November. Their presentation topic is DRIVING INNOVATION THROUGH AN INTEGRATED DESIGN APPROACH.

Clarian Pathology Laboratory

Indianapolis, IN

Processing up to 10 million tests every year, the Clarian Pathology Laboratory is one of the state's largest clinical labs. With dedicated spaces for teaching and learning; test development and translational research, it's also some of Indiana's most fertile ground for discovery.

The freestanding Clarian Pathology Laboratory consolidates testing previously located in decentralized Clarian Health labs into a single facility where a major robotics system decreases turnaround time.

The laboratory connects to three nearby Clarian Health campuses by way of an elevated transportation system. A pneumatic tube system below the tracks transports blood and specimen
